Hurricane Expo 2011


Marion County Composite Squadron cadets and Officers arrived at 5:30 AM
to a chilly morning. As the sun rose, the main attraction of the expo came into view. It was a WC 130 Hurricane Hunter of the Air Force Reserve Command out of Biloxi Mississippi.
The cadets gather and received their assignments for the Expo. They were to aid the vendors to their designated sites and help them as much as they could. Many vendors featuring different items to be used during a hurricane was on display. Also fire department fire engines, hazmart trailers, Special Operations trailers, Bomb squad truck were on display plus a helicopter from the Sheriff’s Department and a single engine aircraft from the Forest department.
The Squadron had a Cessna 172 on display that many of the youngsters had the delight of sitting in the cokpit, plus the Squadrons’ Mobile Communications Trailer and CAP Van.
The weather emain cool but very windy and the wind caused many of the tents to blow over. Around 2 PM everyone started to depart but the lines to view the WC 130 remained long throughout the day. The public were able to tour the rear of the aircraft where the crew explained the many stations they occupy. The flight crew conducted a tour of the cockpit explaining  the many gauges to an inquisitive crowd.
The rains finally came around 2:30 Pm but most have already departed the expo.
The Sheriff’s department is already planning for next years Expo with Marion County Composite Squadron playing a great part in it.
