Squadron Banquet 2008

Senior Members and their spouses and guest, Cadets and their parents along with special guest presenters gathered at Elk’s Club for our annual Squadron banquet.

A buffet of Chicken Marsala plus Roast Beef was the main menu, and all filed their plates to capacity.

The guest speaker of the evening was Lt Col Rick Bishop (CAP). Lt Col Bishop is a retired Air Force pilot and American Airlines pilot. Lt Col Bishop was a U2 pilot for 13 years and also flew many high performance aircraft in the Air Force gave a slide and video presentation of his years as a U2 pilot. He also flew Army helicopters and now is a Mission Pilot flying as he put it “ A Small airplane when compared to what he use to fly”

The Awards ceremony started after all enjoyed their meal. Many of the Squadron’s main staff talked about their duty positions.

The first of the Awards presented was Graduation Certificates presented by C/Captain Alejandro Piferrer, , Cadet Commander, to the graduates of the Squadron’s first Basic Cadet Training which was under the direction of C/CMSgt Clancy. Certificates of Outstanding Performance was presented to C/A1c Caleb Adair for Drill Excellence, C/SSgt Mary Dauss for Academic Excellence and C/SSgt Justin Young as Honor Cadet.

Cadet Promotions were next and that evening Cadet Caleb Adair was promoted to C/SrA, Cadet Richard Burke to C/A1c, Cadet Samuel Dauss to C/SMSgt(1st Sgt)

Wright Brothers Awards were presented to Cadet Mary Dauss and Cadet Justin Young by Lt. Col. John Edsall, Group 2 Commander. They were promoted to C/SSgt aided by their parents.

C/Captain Isaiah Tamblingson presented C/CMSgt a certificate of Appreciation for his hard work developing the BCT program and being it’s first Director. A Cadet of the Quarter certificate was presented to C/A1c Caleb Adair with a plate to be mounted on the unit’s Cadet of the Quarter Plaque. A cord for Cadet of the Quarter will be presented to cadet Adair at a latter date.

A Mitchell award was presented to Lt Col John Edsall, Group 2 Commander to Cadet Clancy and was promoted to C/2nd Lt by Lt Col Edsall assisted by his mother.

Captain Kielty, Squadron Commander, presented C/Captain Alejandro Piferrer the “Cadet of the Year” Plaque

Captain Kielty presented Mr. Brian Young the “Cadet Sponsor Member of the Year” Plaque.

Mr. Mike Emig announced C/SSgt James Smith as the Air Force Association Cadet of the Year and C/CMSgt Dillon Clancy as the Air Force Sergeants Association’s Cadet of the Year with the plagues to be presented at a later date.

Mr. Lawrence McManus of VFW McCullough-Mixson Post 4209 of Ocala announced C/CMsgt Samuel Dauss as VFW's Cadet of the Year and also the plaque will be presented at a later date

The “Senior Member of the Year” plaque was presented by Captain Kielty, to 2nd Lt Reuben Tamblingson. Major Swain remarked to Captain Kielty was out of uniform. Lt Tamblingson started to check his uniform when Major Swain announced the his brother C/Captain Isaiah Tamblingson and his sister would correct it by pinning on his new rank of 1st Lt. Tamblingson stood there in shock and ay on the sneaky way Major Swain got him his promotion.

The evening’s festivities being concluded all left for the trip home on this unusally chilly evening and look forward to the Squadron’s 2009 Banquet.
